LITTLETON — October 21, 2024 — Littleton Select Board unanimously denies a wine and malt license for the King Street Haffner's station, then authorizes lease talks with a native-tree nursery for Nagog Hill Orchard. The board voted five to zero to reject the off-premise alcohol application submitted by Zeno Corrigan, manager of Energy North Corporation at 25 King Street, citing the site's location across from Littleton High School, an adjacent group home for adolescents, and the planned opening of a second, larger Haffner's station roughly two miles west on the same road. Vice Chair Matthew Nordhaus moved to deny after public comment from Teresa Oliveri, who cited $861-per-capita health costs from alcohol-related illness, and Jonathan Platt, who argued that co-locating beer sales with a Dunkin' Donuts and pizza franchise frequented by teenagers presented foreseeable harm regardless of security measures. The board also voted unanimously to authorize Chair Mark Rombacher and Nordhaus to open lease negotiations with Bransfield Tree Company, a native-tree nursery ranked top among three complete RFP responses for the orchard, with a December 31 deadline before the town pivots to a spring sale RFP drafted with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council under a $55,000 community compact contract the board also approved.
