Littleton Select Board Reorganizes, Raises Transfer Station Fees, Kicks Off Town Administrator Search

LITTLETON — May 8, 2023 — Littleton Select Board reorganizes under new chair and approves transfer station fee increases. The board unanimously elected Gary Wilson as chair and Chuck DeCosta as vice chair at its May 8 meeting, the first following the May 6 town election that brought in new member Karen Morrison and returned Matthew Nordhaus, who was appointed chair of the newly formed Town Administrator Selection Committee. Human Resources Director Michelle Vibert reported roughly 19 job postings already in calendar year 2023 — across positions including finance director, facilities manager, health director, two firefighters, three DPW workers, and a fire department executive assistant — and noted that approximately 10 percent of town employees now live in Littleton, compared to what she estimated was the inverse two decades ago. After a public hearing that drew significant advance email response, the board voted unanimously to set the full annual transfer station sticker at $155, up from $140, and the senior sticker at $60, up from $50 — a compromise between Director of Public Works Stephen Yonley's proposal to restore the senior rate to $70 and board members who preferred holding it at $50. The board also voted unanimously to sell $12,036,168 in bond anticipation notes in two series to Jefferies LLC at net interest costs of 3.394 percent and 3.298 percent, supporting the SOAR sewer project, Whitcomb Avenue Treatment Plant, and Indian Hill purchase, with Standard and Poor's having reaffirmed the town's AAA credit rating the prior week.
