Littleton Select Board Appoints Steele McCurdy as Interim Fire Chief on Three-Year Contract

LITTLETON — April 8, 2024 — Littleton Select Board unanimously appointed Steele McCurdy as interim fire chief and advanced a $2.981 million Indian Hill Music School renovation to town meeting at its April 8 session. The board voted 4-0 to appoint McCurdy, a Littleton resident, to a three-year contract starting on or before July 8, 2024, with language allowing him to transition to the permanent chief role without a new search. In a joint session with the Finance Committee, both boards unanimously recommended the Indian Hill renovation article, which drew a low bid of $2.18 million from local firm Classic Construction — roughly 4 percent above the 2023 estimate — bringing the total warrant request to $2,981,047 from the capital stabilization fund, well below a $4 million placeholder set at the fall special town meeting. Both boards also unanimously recommended the MBTA Communities zoning article, with members warning that failure could cost the town $5 million to $10 million in state grants tied to the 550 King Street redevelopment. The board approved four entertainment licenses for the Littleton Rotary Club's June 20-23 carnival at 550 King Street, which will donate a guaranteed $10,000 to the elderly tax-relief TREAD Fund, and unanimously elevated Assistant Town Administrator Ryan Keenan's title to include Finance Director with a grade increase retroactive to February 5.
