Littleton Select Board Appoints McCurdy as Fire Chief, Advances Field Renovation Plan

LITTLETON — September 23, 2024 — Littleton Select Board unanimously confirms Steel McCurdy as fire chief and advances a revised $950,000-plus field renovation plan. The board voted 5-0 to appoint McCurdy, who had been serving as interim chief and briefed members on the regional fallout from the closure of Nashoba Valley Medical Center, which has added roughly 14 calls to Littleton's already 5-percent-elevated monthly call volume. In a joint session with the Finance Committee, Parks and Recreation Director Tim Goddard and Athletic Director Mike Lynn presented a reconceived plan that would build four tennis courts at the Middle School and renovate Whitcomb Field baseball diamond for an estimated $950,000 in construction costs — requiring roughly $300,000 in new Community Preservation Committee funding beyond the $734,000 already approved at a prior town meeting. Both boards raised the Parks and Recreation revolving fund cap from $1.5 million to $1.8 million for FY2025, approved a one-day liquor license for Dirigible Brewing at Farm 359, and voted 4-1 to allow the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee to pursue an ADA-compliant boardwalk connecting Long Lake Park to Two Brothers Trail, contingent on Conservation Commission approval.
