Littleton Schools Set New Start Times, With High School Beginning After 8 a.m.

LITTLETON — May 4, 2023 — Littleton School Committee officially released new start times for all four schools at its May 4 meeting, marking the end of a multiyear push tied to school committee elections and community debate. Superintendent Kelly Clenchy announced Littleton High School will begin at 8:05 a.m. — clearing the 8 a.m. threshold the committee had long sought — with the middle school at 7:55 a.m., Russell Street at 8:45 a.m., and Shaker Lane at 8:55 a.m., all effective for the 2023-2024 school year. The committee also heard a preliminary proposal from Parks and Recreation to add two tennis courts at the high school at an estimated cost of $700,000 to $1 million, with a warning from Assistant Superintendent Steve Mark that without four courts in town, the high school tennis program cannot continue once the Town Hall courts are removed for the new senior center. The committee unanimously approved Littleton Light and Water to install a solar safety light near the Russell Street track at no cost to the district, and approved additional state-required disciplinary handbook language for students with disabilities. School choice revenue was reported at a projected $430,000 for the current year, approximately $20,000 below the prior year.
