Littleton Schools Post Highest Math Scores Since Pandemic, Eye Financial Policy Overhaul

LITTLETON -- September 26, 2024, Littleton schools report their strongest post-pandemic math scores as committee debates town financial policy. Assistant Superintendent Steele presented MAP Growth data showing 83 percent of district students at or above the national grade-level norm in math, up from 74 percent the prior year, with grades three through five at Russell Street School surpassing pre-pandemic benchmarks by up to four and a half RIT points, gains the district attributes to the K-5 Into Math curriculum adopted in fall 2022. At Littleton High School, Principal John Harrington reported that 90 percent of AP exam-takers scored a three or higher in 2023-2024, with 183 individual scores of four or five and a 93 percent pass rate in AP Statistics alone. The committee then debated a draft town financial policy document, agreeing to revise language on prepayment of out-of-district special education tuition and to add language directing excess Chapter 70 state aid into a new school building stabilization fund, a vehicle not yet established, intended to help fund a roughly $5 million high school roof project that currently has no dedicated savings.
