Littleton School Committee Urges Packed Turnout for Shaker Lane Town Meeting Vote

LITTLETON — October 23, 2025 — Littleton School Committee makes final push for new Shaker Lane Elementary School ahead of October 28 special town meeting. Superintendent Kelly Clenchy and committee members spent more than 30 minutes urging residents to attend the town meeting in person, warning that a two-thirds supermajority is required and that a separate November 1 ballot vote cannot substitute for a failed town meeting result. The Massachusetts School Building Authority has allocated $38 million toward the project, which Clenchy said will not remain available indefinitely given demand from other communities on the MSBA waiting list. "The no votes are going to show up," one member warned, urging project supporters not to assume the outcome is certain. The committee also reported that 327 absentee ballots had been returned and that 78 children have been pre-registered for free on-site childcare during the town meeting. In other business, the committee accepted seven school policies for first reading — including a pest management revision discouraging second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides and an energy policy update requiring district energy data be posted to the district website — and received a budget update showing the district finished FY2025 with just $52,000 unspent out of a roughly $25.4 million budget, with those funds reverting to the school stabilization fund.
