Littleton School Committee Selects New Upper-Field Design for Shaker Lane Rebuild

LITTLETON — November 14, 2024 — Littleton School Committee advances Shaker Lane full rebuild and previews second school resource officer. The building committee voted November 13 to select Option 3.1 — a new school constructed on the upper field behind the existing Shaker Lane building, with demolition of the current structure to follow — as the design it will submit to the Massachusetts School Building Authority, eliminating the other two alternatives from consideration; a town meeting vote on funding is expected approximately one year away. Superintendent Anthony Cluney told the committee the district has funding in place for a second school resource officer, with a formal proposal from Chief Bernard and School Resource Officer Detective Wozniacki scheduled for the December 13 meeting and implementation targeted for January 2025. On MCAS, High School Principal Don Harrington-Weisbach reported that 66 percent of 10th graders met or exceeded expectations in both ELA and math — a drop of 12 and 6 percentage points, respectively, from the prior year — while sixth-grade ELA student growth at the middle school ranked first out of 323 Massachusetts districts. The committee voted 5-0 to adopt Policy AC on non-discrimination and harassment, adding military and veteran status omitted from the first reading, and deferred a third scheduled presentation to the next meeting.
