Littleton School Committee Orders Grading Audit Across Grades 6 Through 12

LITTLETON — January 23, 2025 — Littleton School Committee directs administrators to audit and fix grading delays at the middle and high schools. A parent, Jenny Boyer, told the committee January 23 that teachers were citing the absence of contractual grading deadlines to justify weeks-long turnaround times, leaving students unable to use test-correction policies or track their own progress. Superintendent Kelly Glennon responded sharply, saying "a professional shouldn't have to rely on a step-by-step process and a written contract to do their job," and charged the middle school principal, the high school principal, and Director of Teaching and Learning Steel with assessing the scope of the problem across grades 6 through 12 and developing school-based grading practice expectations. The committee set a February 27 update deadline. Separately, the committee received a Portrait of a Learner update showing the district has completed a shared districtwide definition of learning and is now in phase two defining student competencies, and heard that Littleton has already reverted to pre-2024 Title IX grievance procedures following a January 9 federal court ruling striking down the 2024 amendments — with Massachusetts state law continuing to protect gender identity independently. On the Shaker Lane school project, a newly disclosed project timeline puts completion at August 2028, about a year ahead of prior estimates, with an MSBA full-board vote expected February 25.
