Littleton School Committee elects McCarthy chair, dissolves three subcommittees at reorganization

LITTLETON — May 19, 2022 — Littleton School Committee elects new officers and restructures its subcommittee roster at annual reorganization meeting. Dr. Justin McCarthy was unanimously elected chair at the May 19 meeting, succeeding Matthew Hunt; Jennifer Gold was elected vice chair and Brad Austin was elected clerk. The committee dissolved three dormant subcommittees — the Permanent School Planning Committee, the Reasonable Regionalization Study Committee, and the pandemic-era Reopening Task Force — and created a new School Start Time Subcommittee, assigning Gold and Superintendent Dr. Clinchy to it. Member Stacy was named to both the Municipal Building Committee, which will oversee the planned Shaker Lane school project, and the Master Plan Implementation Committee, with McCarthy noting those seats carry "some real chance to have some input" on development decisions ahead. The meeting also featured full curriculum reports from world language, science, and elementary educators, a professional development highlight from six teachers, and a COVID-19 dashboard review showing a district-wide two-week prevalence rate of 6.60 percent trending downward — with the committee reaching consensus that a joint meeting with the Board of Health was not necessary at this time.
