Littleton School Committee Approves Submission of Nearly $5 Million Capital Plan

LITTLETON — October 13, 2022 — Littleton School Committee reviews nearly $5 million capital plan as high school roof surpasses its design life. Business Manager Steve Mark presented a draft FY2024 capital plan totaling just under $5 million, anchored by a $4 million estimate to replace the bulk of the Littleton High School roof, now 22 years old and two years past its rated lifespan. Mark noted that a $275,000 rooftop HVAC unit serving the high school auditorium is also operating well past its 15-year life, and warned that the middle school's roof and mechanical systems would enter the same replacement window within four to six years. The committee also received briefings on the ALICE active-intruder protocol from new School Resource Officer Detective Meg Wozzecki and Sergeant Doug Mandry of the Littleton Police Department, who confirmed officers train to a single-officer response standard — "first officer on scene is going to direct a threat" — and conduct scenario-based drills inside school buildings. A wide-ranging social-emotional learning presentation from Director of Student Services Kelly Steel and Superintendent Jason Clunchy detailed clinical teams at all four schools and announced a planned MTSS needs assessment and twice-yearly climate surveys. The committee voted unanimously to submit the capital plan to the town.
