Littleton Board of Health Approves Septic Variances for Three Failing Residential Systems

LITTLETON — September 24, 2025 — Littleton Board of Health approves three septic variances and issues a 30-day remediation order for a senior housing complex. The board voted 3-0 at its September 24 meeting to approve septic system upgrades at 30 Dollar Drive, 34 Bald Hill Road, and 38 George Street, all three-bedroom homes that failed Title V inspections on tight residential lots. Engineer Kirk Fitzpatrick of Civil Solutions presented all three cases, proposing Presby Enviro-Septic leaching systems and requesting groundwater offset reductions from four feet to two feet in each instance; the two Bald Hill Road and George Street approvals also included variances to Board of Health Regulation 27 allowing fill within 10 feet of a property line. Health Director Francis separately reported that the town has issued a public health nuisance order requiring remediation within 30 days at Littleton Green, a senior affordable housing complex at 421 King Street, where a deceased tenant's hoarding-condition unit suffered flood damage that spread into common hallways and an adjacent apartment, with a probate court injunction blocking management access. Francis also reported approximately $40,000 in incoming opioid settlement funds to be distributed over 10 to 15 years and said Littleton remains at moderate West Nile virus risk with no local human cases of EEE detected this season.
