Health board votes to seek inspector, social worker
Board of Health · Meeting of September 23, 2026
Littleton Board of Health votes to seek a full-time inspector and half-time social worker for fiscal 2028. Health Director Kelly Callo told the board the department runs on roughly 1.75 full-time equivalent staff for a town of about 10,500, well below federal and NACCHO benchmarks. The 5-0 vote, moved by member Matt Wayson, comes as members also prepare to fight an October 27 town meeting charter article that would convert the elected board to a select board appointment; consultant Mike Hugo warned that "any time that an elected board becomes appointed, there's just a recipe for disaster." Separately, the board declined to take a position on a proposed Chapter 40U bylaw imposing fines up to $500 a day on "problem properties," with clerk Elizabeth Donegan warning it could unfairly burden elderly and disabled homeowners, and advanced a rewritten private well regulation to town counsel for review.
