Littleton Board of Health Approves Septic and Well Variances at Three Properties

LITTLETON — July 24, 2024 — Littleton Board of Health approves three property variances and defers three policy rewrites at July meeting. Vice Chair Kevin Davis presided over the July 24 meeting, during which the three-member quorum unanimously approved a Title V waiver for 23-31 Stephen Street and 1 Adam Street — formalizing a months-in-the-making agreement with $60,000 held in escrow — as well as a well-setback variance reducing required distances from 50 feet to 23 feet at 26-30 Cricket Lane on Spectacle Pond, a project stalled since 2021 by an abutters' court dispute. The board also approved three septic variances for 30 George Street, including a reduction in the seasonal high groundwater separation from four feet to two feet for a replacement system serving a house whose existing system was found in failure this spring. A draft Board of Health code of conduct, a room count policy, and updated private well regulations were all tabled to a future meeting pending attendance by absent member Dr. Wason and late-arriving member Mr. Kane; a recurring concern driving the room count debate is that new construction sized to minimum septic capacity leaves residents unable to finish basements without seeking variances.
