Littleton Board of Health Approves 18 Pleasant Street Septic System With Two Variances

LITTLETON — July 23, 2025 — Littleton Board of Health unanimously approved a septic system replacement with two regulatory variances at 18 Pleasant Street and introduced its new part-time public health nurse. The board voted 3-0 to grant a fill variance within 10 feet of an abutting lot line and to allow a groundwater offset reduced to three feet under a Presby system pre-approval, with engineer Montgomery Ustemski of McNary, Acton confirming the leach field sits roughly 12 feet from the neighbor's system and that 18 inches of cover will protect the portion running beneath the driveway. The board also heard a first-read presentation from Health Director Francis on pooling opioid settlement funds with regional towns to support a roughly five-year substance abuse coordinator pilot, with board member Dr. Matt Wason urging language focused on "awareness" and "abatement" rather than "abuse." Susan Sama, a nurse epidemiologist with more than 20 years of public health experience and 11 years on the Sudbury Board of Health, was welcomed as the town's new part-time public health nurse, already organizing fall flu and COVID clinics and tick kit distribution through the senior center. The board also received a preliminary impact memo from Francis warning that the proposed 1,089-unit 550 King Street development by Lupoli Construction could require at least one additional full-time Board of Health staff member once fully built out.
