Board hears Shaker Lane School septic plan requiring two variances

Littleton Board of Health reviews Shaker Lane School septic variance, weighs data centers and a rodenticide ban. Civil engineer Drew Garvin told the board the new elementary school's septic system will need a local variance for a 50-minute-per-inch percolation rate, above the board's 40-minute limit, while reusing a 1996 treatment system sized for 620 students and staff despite enrollment of just 398. The board took no vote on the design.
Members separately heard that Governor Maura Healey has paused data center sales-tax exemptions statewide, and resident Joanne Deary said, "I'd really like to see Littleton not have any more data centers." The board approved minutes from three earlier meetings by 3-1 or 3-0 votes, tabled a fourth, and heard from the Littleton Conservation Trust on a citizen's petition for a rodenticide ban needing 100 signatures by September 11. Vaccination rates for COVID last season were 18 percent, and flu was under 50 percent.
