Clean Lakes Committee weighs Mill Pond dam options

Clean Lakes Committee · Meeting of September 23, 2026

Littleton Clean Lakes Committee reviews $300,000 fix for Mill Pond's broken dam gate. Chair John Folsom walked members through an engineering study outlining three paths for the aging, state-owned dam: removal, no action, or repairing a corroded sluice gate that hasn't operated in decades, a repair a recent state inspection pegged at roughly $300,000. Members approved August's minutes unanimously and heard from Leon Weaver that Forge Pond's fanwort herbicide treatment, applied in April with May and July "bump-ups," has drawn no abutter complaints.

Mill Road resident Kim Hall asked to join the committee, saying the pond "is pretty smelly" every summer, but the request now goes to the Select Board since the roster shows all 11 seats filled. A separate Long Lake dock and shoreline-access dispute, debated for roughly a year, also moves to the Select Board after town counsel advised against public dock access on liability grounds.
