Select Board tables Long Lake dock decisions, seeks more guidance
Select Board · Meeting of August 10, 2026
LITTLETON — Select Board and Conservation Commission postpone Long Lake dock decisions. The joint meeting heard divergent resident opinions on whether the town should manage access to conservation land bordering the lake, from a 6-1 Conservation Commission preference that the town assume buffer-strip maintenance to resident Amy Tarlow-Lewis calling for removal of all private docks and implementation of a town-run lottery system open to all residents, to abutter concerns about parking and stewardship. Conservation Commission Chair Chase Gerbig reported approximately seven to eight docks currently moored without permits, recent unauthorized vegetation removal by abutting residents, and about 17 written public comments received.
Town Counsel Harrington cautioned that the town's formal awareness of unsafe dock conditions raises liability if action is not taken. The board agreed to conduct a site walk before reconvening.
