Littleton Select Board Votes 5-0 to Offer Fire Chief Job to Groton's Steel McCready

LITTLETON — March 11, 2024 — Littleton Select Board unanimously picks Groton Fire Chief Steel McCready to lead the town's fire department. The board voted 5-0 Monday night to extend a conditional offer of employment to McCready, who has served as chief of the Groton Fire Department for nearly 10 years and previously held an interim role in Littleton, beating out finalist John Kivlin, a captain and state hazmat team member. Members cited McCready's decade of demonstrated chief-level experience and, in the words of Chairman Gary Wilson participating remotely, "a professional calmness about Mr. McCready's demeanor that speaks directly to what I would like to see in the next senior leader." In separate action, the board voted 5-0 to suspend the package store license of Littleton Convenience at 12 Jennifer Street for three days — March 15 through 17, including St. Patrick's Day weekend — with three additional days held in abeyance for one year, after a Littleton Police detective testified that a high school student purchased two 12-packs of beer without being carded in January 2024. The board also approved a 32-article Annual Town Meeting warrant for the May 7 session, including funding articles for the 36 King Street renovation and the FY25 municipal budget.
