Littleton Select Board Rejects $3,500 Office Renovation, Approves MSBA Authorization

LITTLETON — November 24, 2025 — Littleton Select Board kills a $3,500 town hall office renovation but clears MSBA paperwork in a pre-Thanksgiving session. The board voted 2-3 Monday night against authorizing Town Administrator Jim Duggan to spend up to $3,500 — drawn from prior capital improvement balances — to frame a doorway between rooms 305 and 307, remove an interior wall, and repair carpet in the town administrator's suite. Member Chuck DeCost argued the project "doesn't send a good message" given simultaneous budget cuts and called the cost estimate unrealistically low; member Gary Thibeault countered the board was "micromanaging" a routine operational decision. The board then voted 4-1 to authorize Duggan to execute Massachusetts School Building Authority documents as the town's school building project enters a new phase, with DeCost casting the lone dissent. The larger question of how to configure town hall — including a roughly $160,000 proposal to move the land use department from the first floor to the second — is expected at an upcoming town meeting session members called "super Saturday."
