Littleton Select Board Pauses Orchard Working Group, Seeks Cost Data Before Next Vote

LITTLETON — June 24, 2024 — Littleton Select Board names new senior center, stalls on Nagog Orchard path forward. The board unanimously named the town's new facility at Shattuck Street the Center on Shattuck Street, accepting the Council on Aging's recommendation brought forward by Director of Elder and Human Services Liz Trudiak, and voted to execute the notice of taking for the Webster property per Article 8 of the May 2024 Annual Town Meeting. The board spent nearly an hour on the Nagog Orchard without reaching a decision, as Member Matthew Morrison argued sale remains the only fiscally sound path — "this town does not have the resources to run a farm, any farm, efficiently" — while Member Gary Nordhaus insisted the board should honor the Town Meeting vote and pursue a management agreement or lease for at least 25 acres, with a Christmas tree farmer from the audience volunteering interest in such a lease. The Nagog Orchard Working Group was informally paused for the summer, with a focused board discussion tentatively set for July 8 to settle on a direction before fall Town Meeting deadlines arrive.
