Littleton Select Board Disbands Station Area Committee, Approves Year-End Budget Transfers

LITTLETON — July 10, 2023 — Littleton Select Board unanimously disbands Station Area Committee and authorizes $375,000 in year-end budget transfers. The board voted July 10 to close the committee, which Select Board member Mark Rambacher said had not met in over a year after intentionally transferring its transit-oriented zoning work to the Planning Board as the 550 King Street development absorbed anticipated density. Town Administrator Ryan told the board the fiscal year 2023 budget can be closed through approximately $375,000 in interdepartmental transfers — covering deficits in the fire department, public buildings, HR, and an IRS penalty on a prior treasurer's filing error — without drawing on the reserve fund, leaving stabilization balances of roughly $7 million intact. The board also heard public debate over the proposed $18.5 million Senior Center, with resident George Sanders urging rehabilitation of Indian Hill instead and Council on Aging Board representative Susan Melander countering that a 2021 feasibility study found that building architecturally unsuitable for senior programming. DPW Director Steven Alley presented a wide-ranging briefing on seven active road projects, transfer station operations, and facility improvements, noting Foster Street Phase 1 remains on track for construction advertisement in early 2024.
