Littleton Select Board closes Taylor Street truck hearing, leaves 1988 ban in place

LITTLETON — December 16, 2024 — Littleton Select Board closes Taylor Street truck exclusion hearing without lifting the 1988 ban. After two rounds of public hearings, a 177-address expanded notification, and a stack of resident emails, the board unanimously closed the hearing Monday and declined to take any vote to modify the restriction, with Chair Mark Rambacas saying "the trucks are right where we want them on a state road." Resident Jason Burn of 71 Taylor Street argued the real problem is a 508-foot left-turn queue into the high school entrance and called for a police traffic detail instead of a policy change. The board also voted unanimously to obligate $2,920,288.56 in federal ARPA funds before a December 31 deadline — $725,971.43 to a high school HVAC replacement already under contract, $2 million toward sewer project bills, and $194,317.13 for associated water work — with roughly $280,000 in ARPA interest income earmarked to cover sewer betterment costs in fiscal year 2026. Town Clerk Diane Flohr secured a unanimous vote declaring Littleton a Purple Heart Community and designating August 7 as National Purple Heart Day, unlocking an application to the Military Order of the Purple Heart for community-border signs. The board also approved a $112,900 contract with design firm Activitas for tennis court construction at the middle school and Whitcomb Field renovations, and appointed Norm Young to fill a vacancy on the Park and Recreation Commission through the May 2025 town election.
