Littleton Select Board Approves $2.36 Million in Contracts for King Street and Shaker Lane

LITTLETON -- May 28, 2024, Littleton Select Board approves more than $2.36 million in contracts and grapples with orchard future after failed sale vote. At its May 28 meeting, the board unanimously authorized Town Administrator James Duggan to execute a $2.18 million contract with Classic Construction for the rehabilitation of 36 King Street, a $133,472 owner's project management amendment with the Vertex Companies Inc., and an $80,400 construction administration amendment with LLB Architects, all within the Town Meeting-approved budget. The board also approved a contract with Studio G for designer services on the Shaker Lane Elementary School MSBA project at a cost not to exceed $650,000. A separate discussion on the Nagog Hill Orchard, which Town Meeting rejected selling by three votes earlier in May, produced no formal action but a joint session with the orchard working group was set for May 30; members acknowledged immediate tree removal and structural repairs are likely needed regardless of long-term direction. Clean Lakes Committee Chair John Folsom told the board his committee lost roughly $400,000 in savings and $80,000 in annual income after the state redirected cell tower revenues, leaving lake management, estimated at $200,000 to $250,000 annually, without a stable funding source as aquatic invasive growth worsens at multiple town ponds.
