Littleton School Committee Re-elects McCarthy Chair, Appoints Heron to Building Panel

LITTLETON — May 15, 2025 — Littleton School Committee unanimously re-elected Justin McCarthy as chair at its May 15 annual reorganization. Superintendent Kelly Clenchy facilitated the officer elections, with Binal Patel named vice chair and Elaine Sandelman elected clerk, all by unanimous roll call. Shauna Heron was formally appointed as the committee's representative to the Shaker Lane School Building Committee, filling a vacancy left by a departed member; McCarthy clarified that MSBA rules limit the panel to one voting school committee designee. The committee also dissolved its dormant liaison role to the Bradford Stanford Scholarship subcommittee. Following reorganization, six elementary curriculum advisors and grades 6-12 ELA Curriculum Coordinator David Pascucci presented the third installment of the district's State of the Curriculum series, reporting a 13 percent increase in students meeting or exceeding MCAS expectations in English — from 53 percent to 66 percent — while flagging that 32 percent of students are only partially meeting expectations, a rate that has doubled since 2021. Superintendent Clenchy described the first year of the Wit and Wisdom K-5 curriculum rollout as "an immense lift" and said implementation science research projects four to seven years for full stabilization.
