Littleton Board Sends Chronic Septic Violator to Housing Court

LITTLETON — January 25, 2023 — Littleton Board of Health votes to send waterfront septic violator to housing court. The board unanimously authorized Health Agent Jim to file in Lawrence Housing Court against the owner of 23 Green Needles Road, where a non-compliant pump chamber has been discharging toward a lake since a power shutoff in May 2022. Board member Dan Kane said the months-long failure to comply with a seven-day October correction order was "a pretty brazen violation of the code." In a separate 5-0 vote, the board approved a local upgrade approval variance allowing a pump chamber at 47 Taylor Street to remain at seven feet from the side property line rather than the required 10 feet, after installer Robert Ratta of RM Ratta Corp described a site so constrained by boulders, a new retaining wall, deck footings, and overhead power lines that the required offset was physically unachievable. Chair Kevin Baker also disclosed that he had attended a joint Finance Committee and Select Board session the prior evening to block a proposed hold on the budget line for a public health coordinator, with officials agreeing to keep the position funded through at least a February 4 budget review.
