Littleton Board of Health Approves Septic Variances for Mill Lane and Town Road Properties

LITTLETON — October 25, 2023 — Littleton Board of Health grants septic variances for two properties and delays action on a shared cesspool at a commercial site. The board voted unanimously Wednesday to approve a single groundwater offset variance for 18 Mill Lane, allowing engineer Kevin Richie of Civil Solutions to install a GeoMat leaching system with a three-foot rather than four-foot groundwater separation, and approved five separate variances for 16 Town Road — a two-bedroom home on a 75-by-100-foot ledgy lot adjacent to the town beach parking area — including a reduction of the groundwater offset from four feet to two feet and multiple reduced lot-line setbacks. A continued Title 5 waiver hearing for 23-31 Stevens Street, a commercial property with a failed cesspool shared between a veterinary-office parcel and an auto body shop lot under newly separate ownership, was continued to November 8 after Health Agent Jim Greffe warned the board that without a recorded shared-system agreement, "there's no clear party to contact" if the cesspool discharges. The board voted 3-0 to require the shared agreement to be in hand before acting on the waiver.
