Littleton Board of Health Votes 4-0 to Rejoin Neshoba Regional Health District

LITTLETON — April 12, 2023 — Littleton Board of Health votes to rejoin Neshoba health district as July 1 deadline looms. The board voted 4-0 at its April 12 meeting to support rejoining the Neshoba Associated Boards of Health, subject to review of a memorandum of understanding, after acknowledging the town has not yet hired its own health director and has no alternative service provider in place for the July 1 start of the fiscal year. Corey Godfrey of the Littleton Water Department briefed the board on PFAS detected at approximately 80 parts per trillion in Beaver Brook surface water behind the middle school, calling it "nothing to be particularly alarmed about" for public health but raising questions from members about whether athletic fields and a nearby farm are irrigated with that surface water. The board also approved septic variances for two properties — 6 Spectacle Pond Road and 17 Mattawanakee Trail — and voted 4-0 to accept changes to a health director job description. Board member Dan Kane disclosed that Littleton had received $46,000 in opioid settlement funds in 2022 without board awareness, and that up to $176,000 more from five pharmacy and manufacturer settlements may be available if the town meets an approximately April 18 sign-on deadline.
