Littleton Board of Health Approves Two-Tank Grease Trap System for Great Road Temple

LITTLETON — April 23, 2025 — Littleton Board of Health clears modified septic design for Great Road temple, flags ADU regulatory gaps. The board voted 3-0 at its April 23 meeting to approve a two-tank grease trap and pump system for a Hindu temple under construction at 255 Great Road, the former DCU Credit Union building, after a contractor error left a drainage pipe approximately 10 inches too low to flow by gravity into the existing septic system. Engineer Carlos Ferreira of MP Design Consultants presented the design; the Nashoba Associated Boards of Health septic engineer confirmed it meets Title 5 standards for board-approved pumping ahead of a septic tank in a non-residential setting. Board Chair Matt Wason added a suggestion — not a condition — that Ferreira investigate the depth of a planned municipal sewer line before finalizing tank placement, saying "now's the time before we dig another hole and pour concrete over it." The board spent the bulk of the evening workshopping a draft local bedroom-count regulation, reaching working consensus on restructuring the language to add a dedicated accessory dwelling unit subsection and to apply room-count thresholds to a structure's final post-construction total rather than its pre-existing configuration — but took no vote, leaving the draft for further revision.
