Littleton Schools to Start Before Labor Day Under New Three-Year Teachers Contract

LITTLETON — May 11, 2023 — Littleton schools will start before Labor Day and cut eight half-days under a newly ratified three-year teachers contract. The Littleton School Committee, reorganized Thursday under returning Chair Justin, heard a public presentation from former member Brad Austin on the Littleton Educators Association agreement, which both sides have ratified. The contract sets salaries at 2 percent in year one and 3.25 percent in years two and three — breaking a long run of 2 percent annual raises — and hires two additional teachers to free up duty-free prep time. Teachers will report August 28 this year, with students arriving August 29, allowing the school year to end around June 13 to 15 rather than late June. Six half-day conference dismissals are replaced by two full-day conference days, November 29 and March 13, and two professional development half-days are converted to full instructional days — yielding 24 additional hours of classroom time annually. The contract is a pilot, with a required review by the LEA and the committee in 18 to 24 months. The committee also unanimously accepted the revised 2023-2024 calendar and announced bus registration opens May 15.
