Littleton Schools Raise Lunch Prices, Accept $40,000 Track Gift at June Meeting

LITTLETON — June 2, 2022 — Littleton School Committee unanimously raises meal prices, accepts $40,000 gift, and holds off on bullying policy at its final meeting of the school year. The board voted June 2 to increase the standard student lunch price from $2.85 to $3.31 and the adult meal price to $5.00 for fiscal year 2023, the first adjustment in roughly seven or eight years, while authorizing the superintendent to approve annual increases of up to 4 percent going forward. Business Manager Steve Markfor explained the hike is required to meet federal reimbursement-rate minimums. The committee also unanimously accepted a $40,000 restricted gift from the Littleton Road Race Track Organization and approved first readings of four revised district policies consolidating non-discrimination and harassment language under a single policy AC. A bullying-prevention policy revision was deliberately withheld from the first reading after public commenter Erica Pogorny, a former committee member, described her child's years of unaddressed bullying in Littleton schools and said, "We need to find that 0.1 percent — we need to make sure every child feels safe at school." Committee Chair Justin Gold pledged the bullying policy would be a primary agenda item in the fall, not a late-meeting procedural step.
