LITTLETON — October 9, 2025 — Littleton School Committee accepts $160,825 youth-sports lighting donation as town meeting on Shaker Lane nears. The committee voted unanimously to accept ownership of a completed LED lighting system at Jett Field, the town's primary softball field at the Russell Street complex, donated in full by Old Iron District Youth Sports, a local nonprofit that raised the funds over several years through donors, annual fundraisers, and sponsors. David McManus, presenting for OIDYS, said the project came in at $160,825 — below a $163,000 base estimate and well under a $208,000 worst-case contingency built in for potential ledge-drilling that turned out to be unnecessary, saving roughly $40,000. The lights, using LED ball-tracker technology that concentrates illumination on the field and minimizes glare, have been in use since September 13. Superintendent Kelly Claffey told the committee there is "no definitive plan" if the upcoming Shaker Lane School project fails at the October 28 town meeting, where a two-thirds vote is required, with a town ballot vote to follow on November 1.
