Littleton Board of Health Approves Septic Variance, Subdivision, Welcomes New Health Director

LITTLETON — March 13, 2024 — Littleton Board of Health seats new health director and clears two land-use items in a brisk March meeting. The board unanimously approved a septic variance for 42 George Street, granting a two-foot groundwater offset reduction and a reduction of the required 12-inch tank invert separation to approximately one inch for a failed system in a high-groundwater neighborhood, with monolithic tanks and cast-in rubber boots required as conditions. The board also voted 3-0 to conditionally approve a three-lot subdivision at 95 Taylor Street, contingent on resolving a nitrogen loading shortfall on one lot sitting within a public water supply Zone 2, along with four other conditions covering dust control, wood waste disposal, stormwater, and Title V compliance. Francis Daigle, Littleton's newly hired Director of Health — on just his third day — introduced himself as the lead for the town's transition "from a regional model to a local service model," with plans to convene community stakeholders on service gaps and new programming. The board also renominated Phyllis Tower, a shared resource with Boxborough, as Inspector of Animals ahead of the April 1 state deadline.
