Littleton Board of Health Adopts New Fee Schedule, Approves Septic Variance

LITTLETON — June 25, 2025 — Littleton Board of Health adopts new fee schedule and approves septic upgrade at June 25 meeting. The board voted 4-0 to approve a Title V septic upgrade at 92 Foster Street, granting a variance reducing the required groundwater offset from four feet to two feet to accommodate a Presby Enviro-Septic system, with Health Director Jim Gareffi calling it "a reasonable way to approach upgrading the system." The board also voted 4-0 to adopt a revised Department of Health fee schedule effective July 1, including a $50 re-inspection fee that members flagged as potentially too low given travel, inspection, and paperwork time — a point Chair Kevin Davis said the board would revisit. A hearing for 4 King Road was continued 4-0 after the board directed the homeowner's contractor to redesign a proposed screened porch so that helical piers meet a five-foot setback from the existing leach field. The meeting ended with members openly frustrated that the town administrator had eliminated the department's administrative staff position without consulting the board, leaving no one to take minutes at Wednesday's meeting.
