Littleton Conservation Commission Unanimously Backs $760,000 Webster Land Purchase at Town Meeting

LITTLETON — May 2, 2024 — Littleton Conservation Commission unanimously backs $760,000 Webster land deal for next week's town meeting. The four-member commission voted 4-0 Thursday to support Article 8 at the Spring 2024 Special Town Meeting, following a Community Preservation Committee vote the previous evening to fund the acquisition outright — $730,000 for the land and $30,000 in soft costs — from open space reserves, leaving roughly $550,000 in reserve. The article failed at the 2023 annual town meeting, falling short of a two-thirds supermajority; the CPA funding mechanism lowers the threshold to a simple majority this time. Commission Chair Chase Gerbig will present and move the article on the floor Tuesday. The commission also ratified a cease-and-desist enforcement order against a septic replacement project at 10 Ivy Road, where unauthorized dewatering discharge traveled down Ivy Road and into a storm drain leading to Frog Pond; work may resume only after erosion controls are repaired and a dewatering pump truck is on site, with the enforcement order remaining active until the catch basin is inspected by DPW.
