Historical Commission rejects barn preservation, allows demolition

Littleton Historical Commission votes to allow barn demolition at 359 King Street. Property owner Joseph Cataldo proposed demolishing the failing structure and rebuilding it as a second residential unit on a new foundation with revised ceiling heights and second-floor egress, arguing the existing rubble and fieldstone foundation lacks structural integrity for rehabilitation. Andrew Watt moved to preferentially preserve the barn under Chapter 65, but the motion failed 1-6, allowing demolition to proceed.
In separate business, the Commission unanimously approved the 2025 Annual Report submission and agreed to pursue a Community Preservation Committee application for granite marker replacements, with Chair Linda Stein, Andrew Watt, and Kristopher Dalen tasked with preparing the application before the March deadline.
