Littleton Conservation Commission Continues Major Water Supply Hearing, Issues Multiple Permits

LITTLETON — November 14, 2023 — Littleton Conservation Commission opens hearing on regional water supply project while issuing a round of permits at its November 14 meeting. The commission heard an opening presentation from Weston and Samson Engineers on a half-million-gallon-per-day well project that would provide Littleton with a redundant water source and extend treated, PFAS-free water to roughly 11 contaminated public water suppliers and private residents in Boxborough under an existing intermunicipal agreement. Engineers reported permanent wetland buffer impacts of 35,754 square feet and 2,512 square feet of permanent fill in bordering land subject to flooding, with the commission ordering a site walk before any vote and directing engineers to improve plan legibility. Member Kyle Maxwell disclosed a potential conflict of interest — he works for the town of Boxborough on a separate PFAS matter — and said he would consult legal counsel. In other action, the commission unanimously approved orders of conditions for two Hartwell Avenue lots, approved a resource area delineation for 95 Taylor Street, issued three certificates of compliance, and recommended a fiscal year 2025 budget to the Select Board that would raise conservation expenses from $18,700 to $22,600 and add roughly $33,000 in salary to bring conservation agent Tim to full-time status.
