Littleton Charter Committee draft sparks Select Board divide over elected versus appointed positions. Chair Betsy Bohling presented the still-unfinished charter to Select Board Chair Karen Morrison in a joint session after more than a year of deliberations, with multiple provisions flagged for further work. The committee voted 6-3 to recommend making the Town Clerk appointed, but board members Gary Wilson and Matthew Nordhaus opposed, citing the need for democratic independence and checks on executive power.
The committee voted unanimously to recommend appointing the Board of Health, but Nordhaus argued the regulatory body should remain elected as a check on the Select Board.
